The licence to operate the Koeberg nuclear plant includes a condition that Eskom must “establish a Public Safety Information Forum (PSIF) as prescribed.” There must be at least 4 meetings per year, and Eskom and the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) are obliged to answer questions from the public relating to safety. The meetings include presentations by Eskom employees, officials from the NNR, the City of Cape Town and others as required. It was decided some time ago that these presentations should not be made available to the public nor even to people at the meeting. We disagree – presentations made at a public meeting relating to public safety must be made available to the public.
