The licence to operate the Koeberg nuclear plant includes a condition that Eskom must “establish a Public Safety Information Forum (PSIF) as prescribed.” There must be at least 4 meetings per year, and Eskom and the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) are obliged to answer questions from the public relating to safety. The meetings include presentations by Eskom employees, officials from the NNR, the City of Cape Town and others as required. For the past decade or mode Eskom has maintained that these presentations should not be made available to the public nor even to people at the meeting. In the public interest, they are published below.

The following three presentations were made to the public at the PSIF in September 2026. Note that the ‘Pop out’ arrow in the top right of each preview can be used to view the presentations full screen.

In 2025, an international organisation visited Koeberg top do an industry peer review. Eskom has refused public access to the resulting report, but made the following presentation about it.

Next was a presentation about the status of Koeberg, which covered the recent radiation contamination events, and showed that Unit 1 had been online continuously for 14 days, and unit 2 was offline.

This was followed by a presentation on the status of the ongoing refurbishment for the Long Term Operation of Koeberg, i.e. the life extension to 20 years beyond the planned life of the plant. It included 3 areas where safety measures have not been installed by the deadline specified by the National Nuclear Regulator.

Finally there was a presentation about the cooling water intake system and the recent problem with clogging by jellyfish and sardines.
